The fourth generation of the Volkswagen Golf has been produced since 1997. For the first time, the current Audi designer, Harmut Warkus, was responsible for designing the exterior of the Golf.
The silhouette of the model became more streamlined and more massive than ever before. One year after the car was introduced to the market,
its sedan version called Bora debuted (the name Jetta was still used in the United States and South Africa).
Volkswagen Golf of the fourth generation made history, because during its production the Golf overtook the Beetle in terms of copies sold (in June 2002, Golf No. 21 517 415 was produced).
Until it was withdrawn from production in 2003, almost 4 million units of the fourth generation model were produced.
