Kia does not disclose much on the special edition that will be unveiled this week at The Quail event, during the Monterey Car Week. It will reportedly be a limited-run version of only 1,000 units, available worldwide. The South Korean carmaker promise "unique interior and exterior colorways" and claims it will be an "exclusive style-driven" version.
The teaser that Kia made public obviously confirms the “unique exterior colorway.” The model shows up in a shade of green with an interesting texture. It is unclear if that is caused by the pixelated photo showing the car painted in the usual green in the dark or if there really is something about that green paintwork.
The Kia EV6 has recently been named "2023 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year." So the new special edition might be a tribute to the accolade.
The special package will reportedly bring along gloss black exterior accents plus a unique interior in desert beige, with special badging confirming the fact that it is a special version of the electric car, which might be based on the GT-Line.
We will have to wait until August 18 to learn more. That is when Kia is planning to disclose everything there is to know about the special edition EV6 and you can watch the live stream below.
Six versions of the EV6 are available. The lineup starts with the Light, which is a rear-wheel drive, through the Wind with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, the GT-Line with the same setups and the range-topping GT.
The latter is the most potent car that Kia has ever built. It sports 577 horsepower (585 PS) and 740 Nm for a run from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 kph) in 3.5 seconds. Top speed goes all the way to 162 mph (260 kph). A 77.4-kWh battery helps it drive as far as 224 miles (360 kilometers) before it needs to be plugged in again. But the supremacy of the EV6 will soon be over, because Kia is working on a version that should go above the 600-horsepower mark.
The Asian carmaker will also bring the three-row EV9 crossover to Monterey. The model premiered in New York earlier this year and deliveries should start in the fourth quarter of 2023. The model is underpinned by the E-GMP architecture.
The lineup kicks off with the version sporting a single rear-mounted engine that delivers 215 horsepower (218 PS) and a 76.1-kWh battery pack. The model can also be ordered with the 99.8-kWh battery.
At the opposite end of the lineup sits the dual-motor all-wheel drive version with 379 horsepower (384 PS).
