Ssangyong is bringing the next-gen Ssangyong Rexton (codename: Ssangyong Y400) to market in 2017, which will be the production version of the Ssangyong LIV-2 concept from the 2016 Paris Motor Show.

Further ahead, the company is introducing two new D-segment vehicles, as per a report from Auto Express.

Speaking to the British publication, Johng-sik Choi, CEO, Ssangyong Motor Company, said that the company will develop a new global monocoque platform in the next five years and use it for a D-segment SUV and a D-segment MPV. The Mahindra-owned South Korean automaker has two platforms currently – a ladder-frame used for big models like the Rexton and a monocoque that underpins the Tivoli.

The D-Segment SUV will rival the Renault Koleos, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento, while the MPV will be an alternative to the Renault Espace, and could replace the Ssangyong Turismo.

The future Ssangyong D-segment SUV will be available with a 7-seat layout. It's a little early to predict engines and features, but some sharing can be expected with the next-gen Rexton.
