Antonio Filosa, an engineer who has been with the company, which builds models like the Ram 1500 pickup and its predecessors since 1999, will take over the top spot. The management change will be effective June 23rd, but we've now learned that Filosa has already hit the ground running.
New CEO Has Spent Entire Career With Stellantis
When Executive Chair John Elkann took the reins at Stellantis after the departure of Tavares, Filosa took on a larger leadership role. "I have worked closely with Antonio over the past six months, during which time his responsibilities have increased, and his strong and effective leadership spanning both North and South America at a moment of unprecedented challenge [has] confirmed the excellent qualities he brings to the role. Together with the entire Board, I look forward to working with him," Elkann said.
Antonio Filosa started his time with the company at Fiat in 1999. He spent much of his time with Fiat in South America, becoming plant manager at a facility in Brazil. Filosa became head of FCA operations in Argentina in 2016, and was appointed as COO for the Latin America region in 2018. Filosa replaced Christian Meunier as CEO of the Jeep brand in 2023. Filose also currently serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Americas and Chief Quality Officer for Stellantis.
"It is my great honor to be named the CEO of this fantastic Company. I am grateful to our Chairman, John Elkann, and to the members of our Board for their leadership, particularly in these recent months, and for the confidence they have placed in me to lead our business during this pivotal time for our industry. I have always been inspired by the immense talent, passion and commitment of our people at Stellantis and the power of trusting our teams to achieve excellence. We have the world’s best and most iconic brands in automotive history and an over 100-year heritage of innovation. That legacy, combined with our relentless dedication to giving our customers the products and services they love, will continue to be key to our success."
Filosa Takes Over Struggling Automaker
Filosa inherits control of an automaker that has been struggling. A series of market misses, including struggling sales at nearly all of its brands, especially Jeep, late arrivals of key new products, including the Ram REV and Ramcharger, and a flop with the electric Dodge Charger Daytona, were the most noticeable issues at Stellantis, but they aren't the only ones.
Stellantis brands are now seen as scrambling to find the level of the market. Struggling to add internal combustion power to vehicles meant to be EVs. Company shares are down more than two-thirds since a high in early 2024. The automaker will be looking to Filosa to make the decisions that will help turn the ship around.
