Alpine A390
Alpine A390
We'll get a full rundown of this triple-motor EV when it debuts on May 27. But for now, here's a teaser.

Alpineā€™s next car will be an electric crossover, even though the company doesnā€™t call it that. Weā€™ll get our first complete look at its new ā€œsport fastbackā€ on May 27 when it officially debuts, but the French performance brand has decided to tease the car while wrapping up some winter testing in Finland.

Alpine hides the crossoverā€™s finer styling details under a camouflage wrap, but itā€™s easy to tell it retains much of the A390_Ī² Conceptā€™s styling touches. It has a sharp, angular face with thin headlights and a hood blade that directs airflow over the windshield. The rear has a sloping roof, a small spoiler, and what appear to be full-width taillights.

The only bit of the cabin we get to see is the steering wheel, which has a few Formula 1-inspired touches, like a dedicated overtake button and another for recharging. Thereā€™s also a selector for the five drive modes, which will include a Track mode.

Specific details about the A390ā€™s performance metrics remain a mystery, but Alpine says itā€™ll have three electric motors and torque vectoring, so the car shouldnā€™t be short on power or agility. It measures 181.69 inches long, 60.31 inches tall, and 74.21 inches wideā€”similar in proportions to the Ford Escapeā€”but about six inches shorter.

We should learn everything about the new crossover at its debut on May 27 in France. This is Alpineā€™s third vehicle after the A110 and A290, which the brand will close the order books for early next year. But donā€™t fret, as Alpine is working on an all-electric A110 successorā€”we just donā€™t know when itā€™ll arrive.
