New Peugeot e-3008 and e-5008 Variants Have Way Longer Ranges Than a Tesla Model Y
European sales of all-electric vehicles have dropped hard like a rock this year – in August, EV deliveries plunged 44% across the European Union, and the overall market fell 18.3%. But it seems automakers are trying their best to navigate the treacherous waters.

At least the carmakers are not pulling the plug on EVs and returning to their old habits of burning dead dinosaurs at any cost. For example, the French automaker Peugeot will present the new e-3008 and e-5008 crossover SUVs at the 2024 Paris Motor Show (which takes place at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles between October 14 and 20) with a new certification for their efficiency.

Peugeot launched the all-new third-generation 3008 (mild hybrid) last year in September, but the electrified versions – also built on the STLA Medium platform – are now due before the end of the year. Concurrently, the all-new 5008 and e-5008 were launched in March of this year, and the EV serves not only as a larger alternative to the e-3008 with seating for seven but also as a direct rival to Tesla's Model Y.

As it turns out, the two Peugeot siblings now have a massive advantage compared to the Model Y. The company announced, ahead of their world premiere in Paris, that the e-3008 and e-5008 have received their official WLTP certifications. Whereas the best range for the Tesla Model Y is up to 600 km (WLTP) for the RWD Long Range model (€48,990), the smaller Peugeot e-3008 will travel up to 700 km, and the larger e-5008 will go up to 668 km on a single charge.

Peugeot says that, in practice, the Peugeot e-3008 Electric 230 Long Range can easily complete the trip from Paris to Nice on the famous French Riviera, which is about 930 km on the shortest route with just two stops along the way instead of three for all other competitors. The company also highlights the e-3008 and e-5008 (offered in Allure, Emotion, and Excellence trims) with the new 170 kW (230 ps) powertrain sitting above the 157 kW (210 ps), which has WLTP ranges of 527 and 502 km, respectively.

Both will also incorporate a new battery pre-conditioning system, allowing for optimized charging times during long journeys – they accept up to 160 kW from ultra-fast DC chargers and need just 27 minutes to charge from 20 to 80%, or they can zip enough electrons for a 150-km trip in the span of ten minutes. The main reason for these new efficiency levels is owed to the new 96,9 kWh battery, with the Peugeot e-5008 Electric 230 Long Range still capable of accommodating up to seven people onboard. Additionally, the French automaker offers standard Allure Care, a warranty program for up to 8 years or 160k kilometers covering the whole vehicle, including the "electric motor, charger, transmission, and key electrical and mechanical components."
